Hemp nutrition: Health agencies around the world suggest that humans should ingest essential fatty acids in an omega-3/omega-6 ratio of about 4:1. Western diets typically have omega-6/omega-3 ratios of 10:1 or more, which is too high in omega-6 and too low in omega-3 fatty acids. Research indicates that common illnesses (i.e., cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, diabetes, skin and mood disorders) are attributed to this imbalance.
- Hemp nut and oil offer an omega-3/omega-6 ratio of 3:1 or more

- gluten-free
- 33% protein, which exceeds the amount of protein in most meats
- contains all 10 essential amino acids
- contains all 10 essential fatty acids
- highly digestible (good for those with digestive disorders)
- Hemp oil is best used for coldĀ dishes (i.e., salad dressings, pasta, and vegetables).
- Ground hemp can be used in salads, smoothies, yogurt and oatmeal.
In conclusion hemp really is a healthy food with many uses. Instead of using the many salad dressings that are loaded with high fructose corn syrup use hemp oil. It’s not only greatĀ for salads but can be drizzled over vegetables. Hemp seeds are a good nutritional snack and hemp powder is really good mixed in your oatmeal and smoothies. Just be aware of processed foods like cookies, chips, cereals and breads that contain hemp. Just because a processed food lays claim to having hemp or for that matter flax seed doesn’t mean its healthy.
